Tank Observations:

TANK A
The water appearance of tank A looked more appealing. There were a load of various fish present in the tank, ranging from small, medium to large and very few snails in the tank. It had big rock gravel with a chemical filtration (zeolite stones). The tank had algae growing on the glass, had large plants and contained a heater. The temperature of the tank was a warm 27˚C-28˚C.

TANK B
The water appearance of tank B was murky and brown and had a very blackened or dark look. There were signs of algae growing on the glass, with plants floating around in the tank. There were a few fish and snails in the tank with stones, which had algae on them, at the bottom.  The temperature of the water was 25˚C; it had a heater and a mechanical box filter.

TANK C
The water appearance of tank C was better than tank A and B. The water was clear, had black substrate (either soil or sand) and consisted of a variety of fish with many snails and plants. Although the water seemed to be cleaner than the other two tanks, it did have algae on the substrate. I’m guessing that the tank consisted of an underground filter as I could not see any mechanical filter. The tank had a heater and therefore had a temperature of 29˚C.

According to the results:

·         The tank that was considered to best in best condition, with reference to water chemistry, was tank C. It had the most water changes, had a low nitrite composition and an almost neutral pH value.
·         The tank that was considered to be in worst condition, with reference to water chemistry, was tank A. Due to its’ high nitrate composition and the hardness of the water.
·         Our results were very similar to the results of groups 1 and 2, and were considered to be very close to the expected results of Dr. Knight.
