I would say that last years group's fish didn't stress as much because they had a much wider tank so the fish could stay on one side of the aquarium while the person does the water change.

This year, we have round tanks for the fish, which does not leave much room for the fish to move around so you basically work right above the fish's head which stresses it out more. Quite alot of people said their fish didn't stress as well from this years group but i take it that the plant provides a hiding space for the fish which calms it down quite a bit.

  3. Last years group may have executed more care when changing the water, or perhaps used different equipment to change the water?
I believe that if a pipe was used to siphon the water from the tank, the amount of water disturbance could be drastically reduced! The plant also experiences stress during the water change and I have noticed a few tears in the leaves from the scoop.
